1) Next 2 Weeks (End of 2016/17 Season)

Kris and Kristine leave for Vacation Tuesday (Aug 22) till the following Wednesday (Aug 30). Practices are still happening in the evenings with the following Coaches
Mon/Friday – Elysha
Tues/Thurs – Katie
Wed – Brigette
Sat – Shivam

These are the last 2 weeks of the season, so expect slightly easier practices with more games. We will do something fun on Thursday Aug 31 (hint: Ice Cream).

2) Upcoming Races

Yes, there are actual races this year.
Vancouver happens on Monday, September 4th. We have a bunch of athletes doing this race. I think there are still some spots available.
Vernon Triathlon was moved to Sunday, September 10th. A few athletes are driving up for this race also.

3) NCCP Youth Course

Kristine will be running the NCCP Youth course again this year. This is a required course for all coaches. You need to be 16 to officially take the course, however, Kristine will allow 15 year olds to attend and learn. We highly encourage all coaches who have not taken the course in a couple of years to re-take it (about every 3-5 years). Note: the club pays the cost for all Exceleration Coaches. There will be a Making Ethical Decisions course later in September (this is also required to coach).

4) Information Day

We have our Orientation Day for the club from Noon to 1pm. Our YOS & Youth meeting will happen just after at 1pm (till 2pm). This is a good time to talk to the coach, get information about the program, and help plan the year.

5) BC Summer Games

Every 2 years, BC hosts a summer games. In July, 2018 it happens again. This is a great opportunity for 14 & 15 year old athletes (born in the years 2003 & 2004) to experience a games like atmosphere. The racing is fast and lots of fun. We have had a number of athletes attend the games over the years, ALL of them have enjoyed the experience and would recommend going. You must qualify. Each year the qualifications change a bit, however it will be something like:

  1. be born in 2003 & 2004
  2. be the fastest or second fastest in your zone (our zone consists people with addresses in Vancouver, Burnaby, Delta, Squamish, Whistler, plus) at either Delta Triathlon or North Shore Triathlon (they may use either or both)
  3. 10-12 wild card spots are available to the next 10-12 fastest athletes not yet selected in the province.
Last games, our zone 5 had five girls and three boys qualify

I encourage everyone born in those years to think about trying to qualify, it is a life changing experience.

You will make life long friends from all over the province.
